Aeris leads the SSOIL Project

The SSOIL project: Innovation to transform agri-food waste into valuable resources
In partnership of the Environmental Sustainability Center (CESAM), we present our SSOIL project, an initiative led by AERIS Tecnologías Ambientales that aims to increase the sustainability of the agri-food sector through the in-situ valorization of organic waste.
The SSOIL project develops and validates compact solid-state fermentation (SSF) equipment to transform agri-food and pruning waste into compost-like materials, enriched with macronutrients, organic carbon and biostimulants. This technology allows closing the nutrient cycle, reducing environmental impact and promoting the circular economy in the countryside.
One of the most innovative aspects of SSOIL is the use of unprocessed wood waste, such as grape stems, to capture nutrients from wastewater treatment plant effluents. These wastes are subsequently incorporated into the SSF process, resulting in a functionalized product with high agronomic value. This solution integrates two valorization routes that traditionally had no outlet.
The project has the collaboration of Leitat, the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Sa Canova experimental farm and the CLIQIB cluster, ensuring a unique combination of scientific innovation and practical validation in real environments.
In addition, SSOIL will explore strategies for protecting intellectual property and commercialization routes to facilitate its adoption and maximize the economic and environmental impact of the technology.
With this initiative, AERIS reaffirms its commitment to sustainable innovation, providing practical solutions to improve soil health, reduce waste and promote a more circular and resilient agro-industry.
